New York City Health + Hospitals appointed Sewit Teckie, MD, MBA to the role of System Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Affairs and Business Strategy. She will partner with Ted Long, MD, MHS, LHD (Hon), newly appointed System Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Services and Population Health, to guide the clinical infrastructure, strategic growth, and population health initiatives of the nation’s largest municipal health care system.
Dr. Teckie is a practicing radiation oncologist at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County who joined the system in 2022 as System Chief of Radiation Oncology. In her new role, she oversees NYC Health + Hospitals’ clinical affairs, clinical business planning, and strategic specialty services for the system with a portfolio that includes:
* Provider workforce and affiliations, overseeing the clinical affairs of 6,000 full-time medical staff and managing the Clinical Affiliate relationships;
* Medical education and training, including the Office of Graduate Medical Education which oversees one of the nation’s largest programs with 350 training programs for 2,900 trainees; undergraduate medical education, and the Institute of Medical Simulation and Learning (IMSAL);
* Specialty services, including perioperative services, oncology, women’s health, genetics, pulmonology, cardiology, and palliative care; and
* Operational excellence, leading the Transfer, Access, and Capacity Center (TACC) which supports more than 52,000 patient transportation rides and more than 10,000 annual patient transfers.
Dr. Teckie previously served as interim director of radiation oncology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst and vice president of Enterprise Clinical Operations. She is a clinical associate professor at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine, holds degrees from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and completed her residency at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She also holds an executive MBA from Columbia University, where she received the Dean’s Award with Distinction.
