Tia Powell Harris has been appointed executive director of Weeksville Heritage Center. Before this, she served as director of artistic affairs at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C. where she was responsible for many areas including grant management, admissions and institutional partnerships and outreach. In her new role, she will lead Weeksville in its efforts to expand its education, programming and research capabilities and elevate its standing as one of the nation’s leading centers for African American history and culture.???
Her tenure will begin on March 17.

A 20-year veteran of promoting arts education and cultural programming, Harris earned a M.A. in Communication Arts & Theater and B.S. in Speech and Drama Education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
