South Africa?s former President, Nelson Mandela, was admitted to a military hospital on Saturday. The 94-year-old icon was admitted to the hospital due to health concerns that were believed to ?cause no alarm?.
The President Jacob Zuma’s spokesman said that Mandela was doing well and was receiving medical care “which is consistent for his age.” The statement offered no other details.
?We wish Madiba all the best,” Zuma said using Mandela’s clan name. “The medical team is assured of our support as they look after and ensure the comfort of our beloved founding president of a free and democratic South Africa.”
Mandela?s fight against racism landed him the opportunity to become the first black president of South Africa in 1994, where he served one five-year term.? Mandela later retired in 1999 and lived in his village of Qunu with his family.
Zuma’s statement offered no further details concerning Mandela?s health; this has led to a community outburst. However, what the public does know is that the nation’s military has taken over caring for the Mandela since the 2011 respiratory infection. He is being treated by the best doctor?s in South Africa, and is expected to be release as soon as possible.
Each hospital trip has caused the people of South Africa to worry about their former leader of the African National Congress. They worry that the man who helped bring the nation together is slowly fading away.
