Midea Air Conditioner Recall 2025: Midea issued a recall for nearly 1.7 million U and U+ Window Air Conditioners in the United States due to severe health risks associated with mold growth within the devices. Another 45,900 units were also sold in Canada and are affected by the recall.

Why the Recall Was Issued

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) explained that these air conditioners have the ability to accumulate water that accumulates in a puddle and doesn’t drain as fast as it accumulates. These conditions are perfect for the growth of mold. Mold exposure leads to respiratory infections, coughing, allergies, sneezing, sore throats, and in some instances, more severe health threats, particularly among individuals with pre-existing medical conditions.

A minimum of 152 reports of mold have already been submitted, and 17 consumers have complained of mold-related symptoms. This triggered significant safety concerns, which led to the recall.

To get a refund, customers need to either return the unit with a free shipping label, or cut off the power cord of the unplugged unit and send a photo as proof.

For a fix, Midea will either send someone to install a new drain plug, or ship a repair kit with a plug and bubble level, depending on the model.

Consumers are urged not to use the air conditioners until they check their units following the instructions available online. Continued use of affected units without inspection or repair may lead to mold exposure.
