Volkswagen Recall: Volkswagen Group of America has recorded a recall of over 1,700,000 vehicles, as there is a software issue that most of the cars may face. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the cars might face some software issues in the rearview cameras.
The subsidiary Volkswagen Group, Reston, in Virginia, has also revealed some information about the recall. According to them, the recall was initiated on May 22 and was mostly required for two models- Atlas Cross Model and Atlas Vehicles, which were launched in 2024-25.
What are the Disadvantages of the Software Error?
The main issue with the software error was that the rearview camera of the cars was not functioning. This can cause issues for the drivers who need them while their cars are in reverse mode. This is a violation of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety norms due to the inability of the car owner to reverse their car to even destroy properties in any case.
What should the Owners do?
The Volkswagon owners whose cars are affected by the recall must go to their dealers. As said by NHTSA, the dealers will have to fix the camera control unit software without charging any fee.
For that the owners must submit a notification letter by July 18 to avail this facility. Other than that, the owners can also call the customer care service of Volkswagen on the contact- 1-800-893-5298.
Volkswagen has also assigned a number that will help you deal with this issue: 91SB.
Volkswagen Recalls in the past
This is not the first time Volkswagen has initiated a recall over some cars. It has happened several times in the past as well because Volkswagen is said to have violated the EPA Clean Air Act through many of its cars. This time it is for its Atlas Cross Model and Atlas Vehicles which have violated the same emissions rule. On the other hand, some cars had Takata airbag inflators that weren’t functioning properly.
Moreover, it is not a safety recall so you all can relax. Volkswagen has been selling around 4,600,000 cars which surpasses the mentioned emission level permitted in the US since 2008. This case has happened in 2009-15, 2017, 2018, etc. when many car models were recalled due to violation of any act in the US.
Volkswagen Recalls throughout the years.
- From 2009-2015, Volkswagen crossed the prescribed limit of emissions in cars as per the EPA Clean Air Act. These were primarily present in Audi, Porsche, and VW Touareg Vehicles.
- In 2006-2010, Volkswagen had to announce a recall of Passat and Passat Wagon Vehicles due to fuel pump failure in the cars.
- From 2010-2014, Volkswagen enforced a recall for Golf and Jetta SportWagen models for the risk of a crash.
- For 2012-2014, a recall was issued for Passat Sedans and Eos models for the same issues.
- For year 2016-2017, Volkswagen has announced a recall for e-golf vehicles and Golf and Tiguan due to the non-deployment of the airbags in the car.
Conclusion
Volkswagen has not only announced recalls in America but also in many other countries throughout the world. Thus, customers are raising questions about whether Volkswagen can be trusted with their lives or not. Volkswagen has been one of the leading car manufacturers in the world but its constant recalls throughout the years have made the customers doubtful about its competency.
