This month, filmmaker Lee Daniels will deliver remarks at Savannah College?s fall commencement ceremony. His 2001 film, Monster?s Ball, marked him the first African American producer of an Academy Award-nominated and -winning film. Actress Halle Berry took home the Oscar for Best Actress.
His next production, The Woodsman, starring actor Kevin Bacon, garnered the CICAE Art House Prize at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Daniels went on to create several other films including, 2010?s Precious, based on the novel ?Push? by Sapphire; and 2013?s The Butler, that cemented him as a celebrated and respected Hollywood director. Precious won two Academy Awards and The Butler, the story of a White House butler who served eight presidents over three decades, starring Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker, has received early Oscar buzz.
During the ceremony, Daniels will be awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.?
