On the beauty front, Black women have been making strides. Last month it was reported that Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o snagged a coveted Lancome makeup contract and model Jourdan Dunn was named the new face of Maybelline.
“It is an honor to be a spokesperson for such an iconic brand. I am proud to say that I am a Maybelline girl and hopefully I can make people feel the same way I did when I saw the advertisements growing up. The brand imagery is always beautiful and positive. To now be a part of that is a dream come true!” says Dunn.
The 23-year old London native’s first campaign was for the brand’s Go Extreme mascara campaign. In April, she appeared on the cover of Miss Vogue and has her own cooking show, “Well Dunn with Jourdan Dunn,” on Jay-Z’s Life + Times website.
