Private equity financier Robert F. Smith was named chairman of the board at the iconic Carnegie Hall.
He joined the board in 2013.?
In a statement, Mr. Smith said he was ?humbled and honored to serve as Carnegie Hall?s next chairman,? and that he was looking ?forward to building on the Hall?s already considerable outreach efforts into communities to reach our next generation of music lovers and performers.?
Born in Colorado, Smith is the current founder, chairman and chief executive of Vista Equity Partners. He launched the firm in 2000. It is estimated that the former Goldman Sachs banker is worth of 2.5 billion. Last year, Forbes ranked him number 268 on its list of the 400 wealthiest people in the United States.
Smith earned an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School.
