Avis Jones-DeWeever was appointed Executive Director of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). She joined NCNW in 2007 as director of the Research, Public Policy and Information Center. Prior to this, she held positions at other organizations such as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, and the Institute for Women?s Policy Research. NCNW, founded by Mary McLeod Bethune and recently led by the late Dorothy I. Height, is a historic civil rights organization committed to advancing opportunities and improving the quality of life for African-American women.
