CANBERRA, Australia (AP) ? When Montana-born U.S.-Australian dual citizen Brian Schmidt started studying astrophysics, he wondered if he would end up with a job much less a Nobel Prize.

The 44-year-old professor at the Australian National University’s Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics said Wednesday he has never looked back since he began studying the science as a short-term prospect.

On Tuesday, Schmidt and American astrophysicists Saul Perlmutter and Adam Riess were awarded the Nobel Prize for physics for their findings that overturned the conventional idea that the universe’s expansion was slowing.
