MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) ? The man known for discovering the wreck of the Titanic says his latest deep-sea venture aims to discover new geologic features and artifacts from ancient civilization.

Oceanographer Robert Ballard provided details about the expedition in the Black, Aegean, and Mediterranean seas on Thursday at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut.

Ballard says his ship, the E/V Nautilus, will use remote operated vehicles to probe the depths for volcanic fields, hydrothermal vents and ruins of ancient cities that were once above water.

The ship set out from a Turkish port last week and is to finish in November off the coast of Israel.

Ballard is joining the ship later for part of the voyage. He said it will dispatch video and audio feeds to connect with the public as he pursues new discoveries.
