Why Is Iran Attacking Israel With Missiles And Drones?

This attack from Iran on Israel was the first one this month amid the growing tensions between the two nations. According to Iran, this attack was a retaliatory action for Israeli strikes on its military and nuclear sites. IRGC mentioned in one of the statements on television that this attack was a legitimate defense operation. According to the reports, Iran has informed the UN that it has targeted Israeli military assets and not civilians. However, the reports of damage coming from Israel suggest the impact was broader. Israel also launched several missile strikes in response to the attacks.

How Is The United States Going To React To The Iranian Attack?

The US embassy getting hit by the Iranian strikes is one of the first direct hits on a US diplomatic facility. This definitely means a lot, and it is reported that the Pentagon is currently monitoring the situation. The American officials did not give any confirmations regarding any official military action against Iran. However, as per the reports, additional forces have been altered. The embassy located in Jerusalem still remains operational, but the branch in Tel Aviv will stay closed until further notice.

Trump’s post on Trust Social stated that Iran should have signed a deal and urged everyone to evacuate Tehran. This post caused major havoc in the city, which is home to 9.5 million people. Later, an official from the White House clarified that the post from President Trump was just to highlight the urgency of the need for Iran to come for negotiation talks with Israel. The American officials are currently analysing the rapidly developing situation closely. In case Iran targets US interests, it might result in military action.

Democratic US Senator Introduces New Bill To Curb Trump’s War Powers

Tim Kaine, the US Senator from Virginia, has officially introduced a new powers resolution that would require the US Armed Forces to take formal authorization from the US Congress before attacking Iran. The new bill invoked the War Powers Resolution of 1973, which was passed during the Vietnam War. It constrained unilateral presidential powers from engaging in military hostilities. Hassan El-Tayyab, who is the legislative director for Middle East policy at the Friends Committee on National Legislation, mentioned that the bill is a message to Trump against going to war with Iran. There is a possibility that this ball might also have the same fate as that of the other two war power resolutions. But it will still serve as a de-escalation signal and a reminder that only Congress can declare war.
