As we know, Mark Zuckerberg is the founder and CEO of Meta, who has recently taken initiatives to strengthen the AI technology in the company. He aims to get Meta to the top charts in the AI technology industry by the end of the year. One of the major initiatives taken is the Meta Superintelligence Labs, which will deal with researching and developing new AI models. This division of Meta will be led by the former ScaleAI CEO Alexandr Wang, and co-led by Github CEO Nat Friedman, who recently signed a deal with Meta. The previous month, Mark Zuckerberg extended a $14.3 billion deal for a majority stake in ScaleAI, which he did intending to use their employees for AI research.

Furthermore, Mark Zuckerberg has strategized his deals with ScaleAI and GitHub, demanding some of their best services. ScaleAI CEO, Alexandr Wang is specialized in creation of specialized AI models and in growing the division. GitHub CEO, Nat Friedman, is supposed to supervise the AI products and research on them. Other than these two, Meta has invited the SSI co-founder and CEO, Daniel Gross, to make his contributions to the project. Currently, over 11 employees are tapped by Zuckerberg from reputed companies, as per Reuters.

What is the purpose of Meta Superintelligence Labs?

According to Bloomberg, the Meta Superintelligence Labs will work on developing ‘superintelligent’ systems, which can perform tasks more efficiently than humans. Mark Zuckerberg has thought of such advanced systems, which think beyond the average human. For their development, he has appointed 11 people with vast experience in the field from leading AI companies.

His vision has come into existence with the need to diversify the AI technology, as it is evolving day by day. He is willing to bring a change in the world, starting with a change in the AI technology used right now. Moreover, he wants Meta to take the first step towards a different world for humans. This division requires fresh and innovative ideas to solve the modern-day problems and diversify AI for future generations. According to him, Meta is lagging in the generative AI race, and to compensate for it, he is launching programs to cover it. Thus, he requires input from other developers in the AI field to get updated on the latest trends.

Why is Meta poaching OpenAI employees for this project?

AI has reached different levels in these few years, and to develop it into something unique, top developers are required. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, has confessed that Meta is offering its employees up to $100 million for joining its new project. Other than that, Meta is offering the employees of Google to join the AI development and research program, due to their experience and accomplishments. Currently, OpenAI and Google are two companies that are leading their way in the race for AI technologies with the most experienced employees. Thus, Meta is more invested in collecting as many experienced employees as possible for its project.

Several companies like Anthropic are also approached by Meta. However, they are not that relevant to it due to them being a startup and a less reputable AI company.  Thus, they are paid limited attention and investment by Meta.

Mark Zuckerberg is using his money and reputation in the technology industry to attract employees from different companies. In such a case, many companies such as OpenAI are complaining about his method to take away all the experienced employees from their offices. This way, many companies are running short of eligible employees and are facing huge losses.

Conclusion

By using his influence in the technology industry, Zuckerberg is trying to attract as many employees as possible. This way, he can collaborate with more employees and their ideas to develop his project of superintelligent systems. He wants to surpass all other companies, which are currently ahead of him in Generative AI. Moreover, Zuckerberg is taking the initiative to develop his AI systems to lead the tech industry in the future.
