The superfans of baseball must have remembered rising, singing, and stretching in the 7th inning while buying peanuts and Cracker Jack. However, as time passed, the concession prices witnessed a significant rise, and buying snacks burned a hole in their pockets. The price of a single Dodger Dog at Dodger Stadium rose to $7.99. If you are also someone who’s wondering why hot dogs at Dodgers’ are so expensive, the following article is for you.
Arizona Diamondbacks Offers Hot Dogs At $2.99
The ticket prices for almost all the games are soaring high, with some actually touching the skies. Therefore, not many but some of the teams in all the sports have started offering limited menus with basic concession items at fan-friendly prices. For instance, the Diamondbacks actually offer hot dogs just for $2.99 at Chase Field as part of their value menu. Derrick Hall, who is the president of the Diamondbacks, explained that the team executives held a discussion about whether selling some of the items at a discount would cost them more. The team actually concluded that they would make more money this way, as people would feel they were getting a bargain and buying more.
Menu And Offers From Other Teams
The menu at Chase Field includes hot dogs, sodas, peanuts, and popcorn for $2.99. On the other hand, the Baltimore Orioles offers a total of seven food items on its menu for $4 or less. The seven items include popcorn, hot dogs, pretzel bites, nachos, and desserts. Around 9 more teams have value menus or $1 hot dogs for a few games. Delta Center, which serves as the home for the NBA’s Utah Jazz and the Utah Hockey Club, also has $3 menus that have 4 items, including hot dogs. Atlanta Falcons also offers various food items, including dogs, sodas, popcorn, and pretzels at $2 each. It also has a $3 menu that offers sweet tea, peach shakes, nachos, and vegan dogs.
What Did Stan Kasten Say About This?
Stan Kasten, the President of Dodgers, has repeatedly studied whether the introduction of a value menu at Dodgers Stadium will be possible. He accepted that it is a great idea and will significantly increase the number of transactions, helping them make more money. However, he also accepted with great sadness that they couldn’t physically afford an increase in the transactions. Kasten added that increasing transactions will only worsen the overall experience for the fans. The Dodger Stadium lines at concessions would get even longer, attracting even more crowds at the already crowded concourses.
The Real Reason Why Dodgers Cannot Introduce Value Menus
Dodger Stadium is basically built into the side of a hill. This resulted in a cramped space for the concession stands and kitchens that already exist. This is the reason why any plan to widen the concourses ultimately leads to complications. Back in 2013, the Dodgers actually had to lessen the seats while expanding the concourses. Therefore, it cannot really introduce value menus as it will attract more crowds to the concourses. But it does allow the fans to carry their own food and drinks inside. The only condition with this is that the food must be in a small, clear bag, while the drink is a factory-sealed bottle, non-alcoholic, and no larger than one liter.
