Whole Foods Seeking Second Detroit Store

Whole Foods to open in DetroitWhole Foods is seeking a location for a second store in Detroit, co-CEO Walter Robb said this morning.

Robb said the premium grocery chain wants to expand its presence in Detroit after experiencing ?a truly vibrant community.? The company?s first Detroit store opened in 2013.

?Our store is a tremendous success,? he said.

Robb didn?t reveal any details about where Whole Foods is considering a new store or its timeline.

He said the first Whole Foods store in Detroit has helped several key Michigan-based suppliers grow, including McClure?s Pickles and Ellis Island Tea.

?We found tremendous entrepreneurial spirit in the supplier community,? he said.

He said more than 75 percent of the Detroit store?s 180 employees live in the city.
