Wade A. Hinton, Esq.
Deputy General Counsel
Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations LLC
As deputy general counsel for Volkswagen Group of America Chattanooga Operations, Wade A. Hinton helps both to manage legal affairs and provide project management for the company’s manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tenn. “This is my hometown and it has been awesome to the impact VW has had in the community.” says Hinton, who previously was with the law firm of Miller & Martin, and advised the county mayor on policies relating to minority business programs and diversity.
Early in his career, Hinton often found himself not only the youngest of his professional peers but also the only person of color. “I like to be a voice for those who aren’t at the table,” he says. He speaks highly of Melvin Malone, a fellow Tennessee attorney. “Melvin has always had a very practical but driven approach to his career. I’ve always sought guidance from him, whether it’s making a career move or working in a nonprofit arena,” he says. “People like Melvin, Dr. Leroy Keith and Warren Logan have been great sounding boards, friends and mentors. They are all deeply rooted in the community.” Hinton shares his mentors’ passion for serving their community and volunteers at several civic and community organizations, such as the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga Young Professionals, where he once served as charter president, and the Tennessee Business Roundtable.
Hinton holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Emory University, a Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis School of Law and studied at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. He is a former all-state double bassist and notes that he has a great appreciation for music.
Outside of work and volunteering, he works out, loves to read, plays golf and takes salsa lessons. He recently added running to his fitness regimen and has already completed his first half-marathon.
