HANOI, Vietnam (AP) ? An electronics store in Vietnam is ringing in Christmas with a 15-foot tree made from more than 2,500 unusable cellphones.
Nguyen Trai, a store manager at Westcom Electronics in the southern city of My Tho, says 10 workers spent two weeks building the cellular Christmas tree.
He says between 700 and 800 people have visited the tree each day since it was erected in early December outside the store in Tien Giang Province.
Trai says he hopes the tree will raise awareness about hazardous waste and promote environmental responsibility.
The United Nations says solid waste management is among the “major environmental burdens” in Asian countries.
