Communications Consultant, Public Relations Lead for African American and LGBT Segments
Valerie Williams drew the blueprint for a successful career from the biblical verse, “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness.” Adhering to these principles helped her to arrive at her position as communications consultant and public relations lead for Wells Fargo’s African American and LGBT segments. “We have to be comfortable living out our faith within the world and find ways to be all of who we are, wherever we are,” says Williams. “It’s a success formula, quite honestly.”
In her leadership role at Wells Fargo, Williams focuses not only on enhancing brand reputation and promoting products, but also on making sure that Wells Fargo is visibly engaged with team members, customers, and the communities where it operates. “Throughout my career in communications, regardless of what business I supported, I have always seen myself as a liaison between the corporate leaders who are making decisions and the people those decisions impact,” says Williams. “Someone recently introduced me as the conscience behind the work Wells Fargo does in engaging diverse segments. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but it certainly reflects my intentions.”
Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in communications/mass media from The College of New Jersey and
a master’s in counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. A licensed therapist, she plans to start a private practice in the future. In the meantime, she counsels female offenders through the nonprofit, Changed Choices; volunteers with Girl Talk Foundation Inc., an empowerment program for teenage girls; and is co-founder of Women of Jaya Inc., an outreach program for minority women.
Away from Wells Fargo and community activities, Williams enjoys concerts and family vacations with her husband and two sons.
