NEW YORK (AP) ? Stocks are rising at the opening of trading as companies continue to report strong earnings.

The Dow Jones industrial average is up 48 points, or 0.4 percent, to 11,454. The S&P 500 is up 6, or 0.6 percent, to 1,120. The Nasdaq composite is up 5, or 0.2 percent, to 2,529.

Target, Deere, Staples and others reported stronger earnings for last quarter than analysts expected. They are the latest in a stream of companies to do so. Those in the S&P 500 are on track to top profits from the previous year for the ninth straight quarter.

Computer maker Dell also reported stronger profit, but it cut its forecast for revenue growth because of a more uncertain demand outlook.
