GENEVA (AP) ? A U.S. State Department official says Twitter and Facebook is having a big impact on how Washington interacts with the world.
Christina Tribble says diplomats’ growing use ? and awareness of ? social media “has sort of fundamentally shifted the way that we have to reach out, the issues that we think about.”
The State Department’s senior adviser for social media said Thursday night the usual backroom discussions to craft a message before it goes out has become a luxury most can no longer afford.
Tribble told the Geneva School of Diplomacy that because of “the speed that these technologies work at, there’s no way that we can consult with Washington” beforehand all the time.
