Ursula Dudley Oglesby is the daughter of entrepreneurs ? the founders of Dudley Products Inc., ? so it comes as no surprise that she possesses strong leadership, communications and financial skills. ?Instead of an allowance, my parents gave me an investment to start a small popcorn business,? Dudley Oglesby says. ?I understood that if I wanted anything I would have to work for it and earn my money.? This early lesson in business helped Dudley Oglesby up the ranks of her family?s internationally renowned brand. Over more than 20 years, she has held such key positions as general counsel, chief operating officer, not to mention her current role as president and owner of Dudley Beauty Corp, LLC.
In 1992, Dudley Oglesby and her team developed Dudley Products Cosmetics, a full line of cosmetics for the multi-cultural woman that launched with 57 products. The line now includes more than 250 products, with a full line of skin care, cosmeceuticals, and foundations, and has enjoyed double-digit growth year to year under Dudley Oglesby?s direction.
Dudley Oglesby holds a bachelor?s degree in psychology from Harvard College and a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar and served as an adjunct professor in the school of business and economics at N.C. AT&T State University. Dudley Oglesby lives by the personal motto, ?where much is given, much is required.? She explains: ?I want cosmetologists to understand business principles so that they can leave a legacy for their children, as my parents have done for me.?
In her spare time, Dudley Oglesby enjoys playing cards, word games and reading legal thrillers. She has been affiliated with a number of nonprofits, including the National Conference of Community and Justice, and was the first African-American female to serve on the executive board and board of the Direct Selling Association.
