    Founded in 1851, the University of the District of Columbia
    remains the only public university in Washington, D.C. Recognized as a
    Historically Black College, UDC now offers 75 degree programs. In addition,
    this African American university also includes a community college to improve
    the lives of the residents of D.C. On the list of Historical Black
    Colleges and Universities
    (HBCU), UDC upholds an open admissions policy.
