UK regulator signals delay on BSkyB bid

LONDON (AP) ? The regulator who must decide whether to allow News Corp. to mount a takeover bid for British Sky Broadcasting says a decision will take “some time.”

Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt said Friday that the volume of responses to a public consultation, said to exceed 100,000 submissions, would delay the process.

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport said Hunt would consider all factors “including whether the announcement regarding the News of the World’s closure has any impact on the question of media plurality.”

News Corp. owns News of the World, which will be shut down in the wake of an escalating phone hacking scandal.
