Russian Attacks On Ukraine Intensify Even Further

Russia’s attacks that ended up intensifying its war with Ukraine came right after both countries completed one of the biggest prisoner swaps since February 2022. Both countries exchanged a total of one thousand captured soldiers, as well as civilians who were held as prisoners in this swap. According to the reports coming from Ukraine, two children and a teen, aged 8, 12, and a 17-year-old, lost their lives from the latest attacks. Zelensky mentioned on social media that without strong pressure on the leadership of Russia, they will not stop this brutality.

President Trump also mentioned that he was absolutely considering increasing US sanctions on Russia while answering questions on the tarmac in Morristown. He mentioned that he’s not happy with Putin and the way he’s killing a lot of people, and the consideration was in response to Russia’s violence towards Ukraine. This statement from Trump contradicted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s testimony at Congress. Rubio said that Trump believes if they start threatening sanctions right now, the Russians will stop talking.

According to the latest updates, Trump had a two-hour-long phone call with Putin after which he said the two countries will start negotiations toward a ceasefire immediately. However, Putin did not issue any specific commitment to pause the invasion and announced a vague proposal to work on a memorandum that will outline Russia’s demands for peace.
