New York Times Co., up 17 cents at $9.14

The newspaper publisher posted a quarterly loss, but said The New York Times’ new, paid online subscription service showed promise.

Morgan Stanley, up $2.48 at $24.20

The investment bank reported a much smaller loss than investors were expecting thanks to a pickup in trading revenue.
