career advice, unemployedBeing unemployed can be a difficult situation, but you can still find many things to stay busy

If you are unemployed or perhaps facing the possibility of becoming unemployed, the extra time you will have on your hands can seem quite daunting. Sure, the first couple of days you will lie around the house. You may, perhaps, spend hours playing the new Madden 13 that just hit the shelves late last month. Or, you may try out all those awesome looking recipes your friends have been passing around on Pinterest. You may even take a little trip to see your friends and family if they live out of town. But after that is all said and done, what will you really do with your time when you are unemployed? ?

If you are looking for ways to keep yourself active and current within the job market, here are some tips for things you can do with your time to make sure that when the right job opportunity comes your way, you’ll be ready for it.

  1. Start a Workout Regimen
Stay active and begin working out daily will help keep your mind fresh and your body rejuvenated. Just because you have extra time on your hands does not mean you can sleep in every day. ?Join a gym or go to the park and exercise. You may meet interesting people there and develop a new network of contacts. You can never tell. You just might find the job of your dreams in the most unlikely of places. However, if you stay home all the time your chances are slim.
  2. Create a Startup Business from Home
Now that you have some extra time, perhaps you can explore a business idea that you have had in mind. Now would be the ideal time for you to give it a try. When you are updating your resume, this could be something that you would want to discuss with possible employers when you are conducting a job interview. The least you could do is start up your own personal blog. It can be about anything that interests you such as hobbies, entertainment, or simply activities that you have engaged in in the past.
  3. Spend quality time with friends and family
Now that you have the time you can socialize with friends and family again. Talking with the people who mean the most to you will help you maintain your confidence so you won?t become depressed. It has taken some people up to six months to find a new job, so there might be times when you will need the support of your loved ones.
  4. Continue your education
If you are having a difficult time finding a new job, you can always go back to school. Changing career fields or even taking graduate courses at a local college or university may be exactly what you need to get back in the game. There are many opportunities available for furthering your education. There are grants, scholarships, and even student loan options available. Make contact with a local college to find out what courses are available.
