Terry R. Collins Reyes
Founding Partner
Its Express Inc.
Long Island City, N.Y.
Terry R. Collins Reyes attributes her achievements as a founding partner of a multimillion-dollar delivery, courier and logistics company to two ?teams? and ?Kip.? Team Collins, comprising her parents, Lee and Betty Collins, provided guidance, security and entrepreneurial spirit. ?My father has been an entrepreneur most of his life. He?s 76 and still has his store of 38 years, open six days a week,? Collins Reyes says. Team Reyes, through husband, Rick Reyes, imparted the inner workings of being a business owner. The late musician/producer Alarza ?Kip? Lee Collins, her brother, reinforced her entrepreneurial drive. He never worked for anyone but himself.
International Transport Solutions Express Inc. was launched in 2000. ?We are the white glove of transportation. Our niche is, ?When you call, you never get an automated service.? It?s what distinguishes us: simple customer service,? Collins Reyes asserts. ITS?s client list includes Major League Baseball, the NBA, Sesame Street Workshop and ABC News-Disney. Collins Reyes confesses that her biggest worry is how to keep reinventing herself and improve the business as the industry evolves. ?For example, when we started we were strictly one type of service, which was ?every shipment travels on the next flight out.? As a result of 9/ll we had to change gears in anticipation of industry change. We now operate within several logistic spaces, including local messenger, trucking and mailroom management.
Yet, Collins Reyes finds time to take her adult children and grandchildren on vacation together ? her biggest extravagance ? and civic service rooted in education. A member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.- Theta Iota Omega chapter, The Long Island Chapter of The Links Inc., and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Long Island Chapter, Collins Reyes earned a bachelor?s degree from Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus, and currently is an MBA candidate at SUNY Empire State College.
