THE BREAK-IN: Sony Corp. says intruders staged a massive attempt to access user accounts on its PlayStation Network, Sony Entertainment Network and Sony Online Entertainment services.
THE RESPONSE: Sony temporarily locked about 93,000 accounts whose IDs and passwords were successfully ascertained by the blitz. The company says credit card numbers linked to the compromised accounts are not at risk.
A PATTERN: It’s the second major attack on Sony’s flagship gaming site this year. In April, personal data from more than 100 million online gaming and entertainment accounts were compromised, forcing the PlayStation Network to be shut for a month.
