THE REPORT: The Wall Street Journal says Sprint Nextel Corp. will start selling the iPhone in mid-October. It will get both the new iPhone 5 and the current model, the iPhone 4.
THE COMPETITION: The iPhone 5 will launch at the same time that AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless get it, according to the newspaper, which cited unnamed people familiar with the matter.
THE REACTION: Sprint’s stock increased more than 10 percent. Although it has been turning around its ailing operations through improvements in customer care, its inability to sell the iPhone has hampered its recovery.
