Summary Box: Panasonic posts quarterly loss

LOSING MONEY: Panasonic Corp. reported another loss in the latest quarter and projected a huge loss for the year.

SLUMPING SALES: Sales were down in flat panel TVs, auto electronics and cellphones as well as electronics parts and components.

CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: Besides the global economic slump and slower demand in emerging markets, Panasonic faces a strong Japanese currency. That means sales overseas are converted back into fewer yens, unless the company raises prices, which then makes its products less competitive.
