WHAT’S IN A NAME: Motorola is bringing back the “Razr” name, once attached to the best-selling phone in the world.
SIMILARITIES: The new phone is thin, like the old Razr. Otherwise, the new Razr is a different breed from the folding “dumb” phone that made Motorola the second-largest phone maker in the world.
WHAT HAPPENED: Motorola was never able to come up with a phone that could match the old Razr in popularity. Apple’s iPhone, launched in 2007, made it even more difficult to compete. Motorola’s fortunes plummeted as the popularity of the old Razr declined.
