THE ATTACK: Hackers claiming to be Saudis posted credit card information of thousands of Israelis on the Internet in what appeared to be a politically motivated attack.
BY THE NUMBERS: Although hackers claimed to have compromised 400,000 credit-card holders, Israel’s central bank says only about 15,000 active cards were affected.
BUT WAIT …: One expert played down the attack’s scope, saying it would be almost impossible to verify the attackers were Saudi. Gadi Evron, who once oversaw security for the Israeli government Internet provider, says the attack was “nothing special,” given the millions of credit card numbers stolen online daily.
