GOING TO FACEBOOK: Facebook has hired the team behind Gowalla, the location service that lets people share where they are using their mobile phones. It’s not buying the service or technology, though.
WHAT THIS MEANS: As it often does when buying a startup to hire its talent, Facebook will wind down the service. Employers are moving from Austin, Texas, to join Facebook in California next month.
ABOUT GOWALLA: It started in 2009 as a way for people to share their location with friends and strangers by “checking in.” It never quite caught on with a large audience, trailing rival Foursquare.
