Summary Box: DVD settlement for Netflix customers

DVD DISPUTE: More than 25 million current and former Netflix customers are being offered a sliver of a $27.5 million payment to settle part of a lawsuit alleging the video subscription service conspired with Wal-Mart to inflate the prices to rent and buy DVDs.

WHO’S PAYING: Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is footing the bill without acknowledging wrongdoing. The eligible Netflix subscribers will receive a Wal-Mart gift card or cash. Their payments will come after subtracting attorney fees and cost that could approach $9 million.

WHO’S FIGHTING: Netflix Inc. is still preparing to fight the allegations in a federal court trial scheduled to begin Jan. 23.
