THE DEAL: Procter & Gamble Co.’s Duracell battery unit is teaming up with Powermat Ltd. in an effort to get cellphone users to leave their traditional chargers behind in favor of small mats and receivers that wirelessly charge phones and small electronics.
THE REASON: The joint venture, called Duracell Powermat, will let wireless charging equipment maker Powermat reach out to more consumers and give Duracell an advantage in a market in which it hasn’t been very successful.
