NEW MACHINES: The Sprinkles bakery is rolling out a custom-built, high-tech vending machine for cupcakes in Beverly Hills, Calif. Three more are in the works in New York City.
HOW THEY WORK: The ATM-like machine features a touch screen and a robotic arm that pulls the right flavored cupcake from a wall of single-serving boxes inside the store.
DEMAND: The bakery says customers have been asking for increased hours. The machine is the bakery’s way of offering cupcakes around the clock.
