NOVELL’S ARGUMENT: Microsoft Corp. purposely duped Novell into believing its writing application, WordPerfect, would be included in the Windows 95 rollout, then pulled the plug so Microsoft could gain market share with its own product.

MICROSOFT’S ARGUMENT: Novell’s loss of market share was its own doing because the company didn’t develop a Windows-compatible WordPerfect program until months after the operating system’s rollout.

THE CASE: The trial in Novell’s $1 billion lawsuit against Microsoft began in October. The jury was expected to begin deliberations on Wednesday.
