THE RESULTS: Phone company CenturyLink Inc. said Wednesday that its third-quarter net income declined due to rising operating expenses related to its April purchase of larger phone company Qwest. The company earned 34 cents per share excluding one-time items, matching expectations of analysts polled by FactSet. Revenue rose to $4.6 billion, also matching analyst views.
BROADBAND USERS: CenturyLink recorded a net gain of over 57,000 broadband subscribers in the quarter, ending September with 5.5 million.
LOOKING AHEAD: The company predicted adjusted net income of 58 to 62 cents per share for the current quarter on $4.6 billion to $4.65 billion in revenue. Analysts expect 34 cents per share on $4.6 billion in revenue.
