NEW HIRE: Apple named John Browett, CEO of British electronics chain Dixons Retail PLC, to head its retail operations.

DETAILS: Browett starts on April 20 and will report directly to CEO Tim Cook. The vacancy opened when Ron Johnson left to become CEO of J.C. Penney Co. in November.

ABOUT THE STORES: Apple’s highly successful retail stores are known for their stark design and their Genius Bar, where Apple customers get technology advice and support. About two-thirds of Apple’s 361 stores are in the U.S, but Apple is expanding heavily abroad. A European chief helps with the international expansion.
