THE APP: AOL is launching free iPad software that presents a customized, daily e-magazine that draws in content from all over the Web.

WHY?: It’s an effort to snatch a larger portion of the tablet computer audience. AOL can make money from running ads in the app.

DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS: Flipboard and Pulse also aggregate news on the go, but AOL’s app is more focused on bringing users a finite, tailored amount of content that updates once per day.

AVAILABILITY: Wednesday.
