NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are moving between small gains and losses on mixed economic news.
Consumer confidence surged to an eight-month high, but home prices dropped in major cities. Sears plummeted 20 percent Tuesday after reporting that it would close more than 100 stores around the country.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 8 points at 12,301 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern. The S&P 500 was up just over a point at 1,266. The Nasdaq composite was up 4 points at 2,622.
The stock market was closed Monday in observance of Christmas. Stocks are expected to trade within a narrow range this week as trading remains light.
