Regular Monthly Benefits With 2025 COLA

The Social Security Administration recently announced a 2.5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025. It comes into effect in the month of January this year. If you have attained 70 years of age the maximum benefits amount to $5,108. On the other hand, if you are at 67, the maximum benefits amount to $4,018, or if you are 62, it amounts to $2,831.

Social Security Fairness Act Retroactive Payments

The Social Security Fairness Act came into existence in the month of January 2025 replacing Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). This affected around 3.2 million beneficiaries who had non-covered pensions. The administration started issuing the retroactive payments in the month of February 2025. Most of the payments are due late in March. Those who haven’t received the payments worth $6,710 since December 2023 can receive it on the 26th of March or separately as the month ends.

The payments that the administration will issue on the 26th of March 2025 are divided into two groups. In the first case, if you are a typical retiree who is born between the 21st and 31st of any month and started receiving benefits after May 1997, you will receive $2,025. On the other hand, if you are someone affected by WEP/GPO, you might receive a one-time retroactive payment worth $6,710. The amounts are subject to your work history, retirement age, and Fairness Act eligibility.
