Tomorrow, African Ancestry is celebrating its 12th anniversary and this coming Sunday concludes the organization?s three-week radio show on SiriusXM. The special series airs on Channel 126 on Sirius?s Urban View channel at 12 pm noon.
African Ancestry Radio helps its target audience of black celebrities and listeners access information about their heritage. The company?s co-founder Gina Paige expresses her gratitude for Mark Thompson of Sirius, who helped launch the program. Paige worked for a year to execute the radio broadcast as she credits media for being the biggest way to reach people.
?The show is important to combat the negative images the media puts out about Africa,? Paige says. From a business standpoint, she views African Ancestry Radio as an educational tool that emphasizes the importance of knowing one?s own history.
The upcoming show will feature actress and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lee Bailey. Bailey will receive his African Ancestry test live on air. Listeners can join in on the action by calling in and answering trivia questions to win their own heritage test kit.
?We want to celebrate Black history every day, not just once a month,? Paige says.
The radio program is currently being evaluated to air regularly on Sundays.
