Shacara N. Delgado
Senior Vice President, Employment & Benefits Law
Realoogy Holdings Corp.
Madison, N.J.
Shacara N. Delgado quotes Ralph Waldo Emerson in explaining her approach to life: ?The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.? Senior vice president of employment and benefits law at Realogy Holdings Corp., a leading provider of real estate and relocation services, Delgado grew up in a small town where advancement opportunities were very limited and often denied to people based on their race or economic status. ?It was from regularly witnessing this injustice that I was determined to achieve personal success and serve in a role that would give me the opportunity to ensure fair treatment for people of all ethnicities and backgrounds,? she says.
Raised in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, Delgado took example from her mother?s drive for success, earning a bachelor?s degree from Seton Hall University and a law degree from Rutgers School of Law. Failure was never an option. ?I would often think about how difficult it must have been for my mother to earn her GED and a nursing degree, while taking care of our home and raising three children while my father worked as an auto mechanic to support the family. There was no excuse for me not to be equally or more successful,? she declares.
A founding member of the Realogy Diversity & Inclusion Council and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Delgado is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations Citizens Academy and previously served on the Advisory Council for the National Association of Minority and Women Owned Law Firms. She now is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, a trustee for Tri-County Scholarship Fund and a mentor to middle school girls. ?Civic service is important to me. We all have an obligation to contribute to the success of the communities in which we live,? she says.
