The term ?Renaissance man? aptly describes Sekou Campbell in his embrace of the intellectual as well as the artistic. A lawyer with a deep desire to serve others, Campbell is also an experienced educator, actor and theater producer. He earned a law degree from Yeshiva University?s Benjamin N. Cardozo Law School in 2010, where he received the Cardozo Service and Achievement Award, holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in arts from Columbia University and has a Bachelor of Science in human and organizational development from Vanderbilt University. While in law school, Campbell interned for the Honorable Kiyo Matsumoto, federal New York District Court judge. As an attorney at Fox Rothschild L.L.P. since September 2010, he has represented a diverse set of clients in commercial litigation matters, including entertainment, products liability, and white-collar compliance and defense.
Campbell taught mathematics in the South Bronx through Teach for America. He appeared in numerous film and stage productions and was an associate producer for a theater company dedicated to developing artists of color. ?From a very young age, my parents encouraged me to set goals based on my own intrinsic, long-term motivations rather than seek some external, more immediate gratification,? he says. ?I give my life serving others.??
Along with the influence of his parents and his grandfather, himself a Philadelphia lawyer, Campbell credits Ellen Stewart, the late director of New York?s La MaMa Theatre, for shaping his professional growth. ?Her work ethic came from an indefatigable spirit coupled with an active search for deeper meaning,? he says. His wife, Jasmine, and their two children inspire and motivate all that he does. The words of Thurgood Marshall resonate with him: ?In recognizing the humanity of our fellow beings, we pay ourselves the highest tribute.?
