collegeThe New Year brings new possibilities, especially for the next generation of African American and multicultural students.

According to U.S. News, ?New data from the Department of Education shows that nearly every racial and ethnic subgroup has seen a growth in graduation rates that outpaces that of white students ? a sign that the achievement gap is incrementally closing.?

Private sector companies and non-profits alike have committed to keeping the progress going. In addition to some of the more well known scholarship funds such as The Jackie Robinson Foundation, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the United Negro College Fund, we?ve identified five viable scholarship possibilities to keep an eye out for.?

Reinaldo Howard Scholarship: 100% of tuition; Call for deadline information

Buick Achievers Scholarship: 50 Awards of $50,000; Deadline is 2/29/16

Ventures Scholarship Program: $10,000; Call for deadline information

F. Armstrong Scholarship – Cornell College: $16,000; Call for deadline information

Lagrant Foundation: $2,500 or $5,000; Deadline is 2/29/16

Ron Brown Scholar Program: $40,000 ($10,000 for each year of college); Call for deadline information

Alliance of Black Culinarian Scholarship: $2,500; Deadline is 2/15/16

Ronald McDonald House Charities African American Future Achievers Scholarship: Award amount varies; Deadline 1/20/16

Walter N. Ridley Scholarship: $12,500; Call for deadline information

Diversity Scholarship: $10,000; Call for deadline information
