WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators are seeking more information about Google’s proposed purchase of digital advertising company Admeld.
The search engine giant said late Wednesday that the Justice Department has requested more details about the transaction, which Google announced in June without disclosing terms. Such requests are not uncommon in federal reviews.
Admeld, headquartered in New York, works with websites to help them figure out how to make the most money from the amount of space they have available for display ads. Although advertising tied to search results still accounts for the largest slice of Google’s revenue, it is building up its display advertising business too.
The Admeld deal would follow Google’s $3.2 billion purchase of online ad service DoubleClick in 2008 and last year’s $681 million purchase of mobile ad service AdMob.
