Take a snack to refuel your energy without the guilt.

Instead of reaching out for another cup of coffee or a sugary snack when
your energy is starting to wane, try low calorie snacks to keep you
going.

Why Snacking Can Be Good for You

Contrary to what some people think, snacking is not necessarily bad for you ? especially if you know what to eat and when to eat it. In fact, dietitians strongly recommend that you eat some healthy snacks every two to three hours to give you the energy you need to go through your day, boost your metabolism and regulate your blood sugar level.

Some Healthy Snacks to Keep You Going

You need to remember that not all snacks are created equal. There are those that contain enough nutrients to boost your energy and ward off muscle fatigue and there are those that can simply give you empty calories and short bursts of energy. So, how do you know which snacks are good for you? Read on to learn which foods make it to the top of the list.

Nuts

Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts, Brazil nuts and macadamia nuts contain high amounts of protein, fiber and good fats that allow you to stay full for longer periods of time. They also contain significant amounts of antioxidants that directly counteract inflammation caused by chronic fatigue. In addition, nuts also provide high levels of magnesium which can help improve your energy level.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains high levels of protein which serves as a long-lasting energy source. It also contains significant amount of probiotics (the “good bacteria”) that can help improve fatigue symptoms and promote better physical and mental health. To get the best results, mix about one tablespoon of granola or sprinkle your yogurt with some cereal for added energy throughout the day.

Watermelon

According to a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, being slightly dehydrated can drain your energy and leave you feeling fatigued. Prevent this from happening by drinking several glasses of water all throughout the day and by munching on a slice of watermelon.

Fresh fruits

Fruits rich in vitamin C can quickly replenish your energy reserve so consider eating a piece of apple, banana or orange whenever you feel drained. You may also consider eating a cup of chopped fruits or berries if you like.

Dark chocolate

Here is another reason why you shouldn’t feel guilty about eating chocolates to satisfy your sweet tooth. Recent studies show that the polyphenols in dark chocolate can actually increase your serotonin level and reduce your feeling of fatigue.

Snacking can be good for you. Just make sure you choose the right kinds of foods and you can stay energized throughout the day.
