President Obama to Raise the Minimum Wage

Photo of President Barack ObamaIn tonight’s State of the Union address, President Barack Obama is expected to raise the issue of increasing the minimum wage for some workers. The Democrats’ proposed increase is $10.10 an hour. At his address in February, the President proposed $9.

“The President has long supported raising the minimum wage so hardworking Americans can have a decent wage for a day?s works to support their families and make ends meet, and he supports the Harkin/Miller bill that accomplishes this important goal,” a White House official said in an email.

According to economists, the increase recommendation is in line with inflation reporting that if the minimum wage had kept up with inflation since the 1960’s, the number would already be above $10.
