The Associated Press is reporting that President Barack Obama has appointed Shonda Rhimes to the board of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, America?s National Cultural Center. Rhimes is the creator of hit television shows ?Grey?s Anatomy? and ?Scandal.? (This year, ?Scandal? star Kerry Washington was nominated for the Emmy award for Best Actress in a Drama Series.)
?I am grateful that these impressive individuals have chosen to dedicate their talents to serving the American people at this important time for our country.?I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead,? the president said during the announcement.
Rhimes, who is a Golden Globe winner and a two-time Emmy award nominee, has written, directed and produced numerous other television shows and films including the HBO movie ?Introducing Dorothy Dandridge? starring Halle Berry. The film garnered numerous awards for Berry including the Emmy for Lead Actress in a Movie. Rhimes is credited as lead writer.
In 2007, Time magazine listed the Dartmouth College graduate on their list of ?100 people who help shape the world?.

Rhimes is one of six appointments selected to serve on the board including the Carlyle Group’s David Rubenstein. Other existing board members include Caroline Kennedy and a host of people from the business and arts worlds.
